2011 is the Year that 'Made in Britain' makes its mark

Regular readers of this newsletter will remember in the last newsletter I commented on the fact that more interest is being shown in 'Made in Britain'. Since then:

UK cooker manufacturer Stoves have now announced the winner of the 'made in Britain' marque competition and have announced the new design.

Real Business and the CBI have announced a new award for manufacturers: the "Made in Britain" award.

More on both of these below.

The "Made in Britain" award

The "Made in Britain" award will honour products and technologies that are developed, designed and/or manufactured in Britain.

Manufacturing companies are often portrayed as "old" businesses; as the legacy of an "old" Britain. But we strongly disagree. We believe manufacturing has a huge role to play in Britain's economic future – the "Made in Britain" award will recognise this.

We're not just looking for new products – the award is also open to refinements of existing products or technologies introduced to the market in the past two years. We want to hear about the very best "Made in Britain" products and companies.

Nominations don't necessarily have to be for mass market products. Judges will look for evidence of technical excellence, innovation and international potential.

Please Note: Nominations close on September 30

Made in Britain Marque Announced

British kitchen appliance manufacturer Stoves have announced the winner of their national student design competition to create a standard marque to be displayed on British made products.

The campaign was launched following research by the company which showed that two thirds (67%) of people interviewed wanted an official seal of approval to show that products have been made in Britain.

The campaign has received national press coverage, backing from prominent MPs and UK manufacturers and the research findings have even been debated in the House of Commons.

Stoves are calling for all UK manufacturers to support the campaign and British manufacture by displaying this logo on their websites, marketing material or packaging - helping make it easier for people to buy British.

The logo, seen below, is available for use by all companies that manufacturer or produce their products and goods in the UK.
